In 1999, Shane Lunniss arrived on the SAS Pudong Campus as K-12 PE Teacher and Activities Director. There were few facilities and no sporting teams at the time and Shanghai only had 5 International Schools. None of which interacted in sport.
Shane called a meeting of all the 'Activities Directors' of Shanghai's International Schools. At this meeting he put forward a plan for schools to play sport in a variety of seasons with a "no-cut" and "no trophies" total involvement emphasis. This quickly grew into the 2-zone CISSA format we have today with hundreds of students throughout Shanghai taking part in over a dozen sports.
